Junior Product Designer
An industrial/product designer employs a range of creative design, craft and engineering skills and processes to design and shape products for a variety of applications.

He or she needs to balance innovative engineering design, functional requirements and aesthetic appeal.

The work involves either designing, modelling, testing and producing prototypes of brand new products (note books, journals, organizers, small leather goods and personal accessories) or making improvements to existing products.

The role demands in-depth knowledge and understanding of materials, production processes, market research and commercial awareness.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the design brief, including the concept, performance and production criteria.
  • Brainstorming as part of a team or developing design concepts.
  • Sketching initial design ideas.
  • Identifying the suitability and availability of materials.
  • Producing detailed drawings and specifications including parts lists and costings.
  • Making samples or working models by hand or using computerised prototyping equipment.
  • Testing the design concept or physical hands-on testing of models.
  • Researching materials, processes or market requirements.
  • Arranging meetings and liaising with Brand Product Managers, Product Engineers and other departments, including Marketing, to discuss and negotiate appropriate production processes, costs and commercial issues.
    Requirements:

  • Possess Diploma in Industrial & Product Design or Degree in Industrial Design.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Rhinoceros 3D, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of current market trends and style.
  • Strong in colour coordinating, using materials and concept.
  • Knowledge on materials, leathers and fabric construction.
  • Possess strong listening and communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible and good team player.
  • Organise, creative and able to work independently.
